The FitCity web site is full of useful links and resources to help you be a Fit Friend.  These are some of our favorites.

  • Family Fitness Challenge Newsletter
    From April 18 through May 20, we will post nutrition, fitness and financial health tips. The newsletter also has your link to log-in and report your activity. Log-in at least once a week and be eligilbe for prizes and recognition from Senator Richard G. Lugar.
    • Week One: Welcome to the Family Fitness Challenge. Try the exercise of the week, learn about nutrition and print out your family log-in sheet so you're eligible for weekly prizes.
    • Week Two: Veggies 101. Learn how to prepare vegetables to ensure you are getting the most nutrients and a learn how to make Pineapple Coleslaw.
    • Week Three: Breakfast: the smart way to start every day. Find out why having breakfast is so important and learn how simple changes can have a big impact on your health and finances.
    • Week Four: Celebrate Your Accomplishments. On your journey to a healthier lifestyle, remember to reward yourself for your progress. Also in this week's newsletter,  find out 17 different ways you might see "sugar" listed on food labels.
    • Week 5: Continue on Your Healthy Journey. In this final edition of the Family Fitness Challenge newsletter, we share tips on adding fiber to your diet, how to navigate the cereal aisle and a few suggestions on how you and your friends can help each other meet your health goals.
    • Follow up: If you took part in the Familly Fitness Challenge, please take a few minutes to complete this survey. Your feedback is important. Thank you for joining us in the challenge to be healthy!
  • Weekly Activity Calendar
    The CDC recommends 150 minutes of moderate aerobic and strength training activity each week. Track your activity on this handy calendar. Even 10 minutes at a time, across the week, adds up.
  • Grocery Map
    Plan out your trip to the grocery before you go to avoid impulse shopping. Here's a tip: the healthiest foods tend to be around the perimeter of the store, not in the aisles.
  • At Home Exercises
    You don’t need expensive equipment or a gym membership to exercise.  Build an at-home obstacle course. Try some animal exercises with the kids. Make your home fun and active with these ideas.
  • Everyday Exercises
    Part stretching, part yoga and a little bit of strength training and conditioning.
  • Food Journals and Meal Planning
    Eating healthy is a big part of staying fit. If you want to change your eating habits, try planning meals in advance and writing down what you eat.
  • Can Kids Be Fit Friends? Yes.
    Your kids may deny it, but you are their #1 role model. Get your kids in on your healthy journey with these resources and ideas.
  • Stay Friends
